Preparing for the Onslaught

Posted on Thu Jun 23rd, 2022 @ 5:24am by Lieutenant Sarah Wilson & Lieutenant Anna S. Thesia M.D.

Mission: New Harrington
Location: Sickbay

Dr Sarah Wilson looked up as Dr Thesia entered the room after the mission briefing, the expression on her face was far from jovial.

"That look tells me we're about to be very busy" Sarah commented.

"And that surprises you?", Anna said. "Is there ever an emergency during which we're not busy?" She walked into her office, expecting Sarah to follow. "Problem is, I haven't the slightest idea what we'll be going into. The colony's hospitals seem to have everything in control, their problems are mostly getting the wounded to the hospitals to begin with. We can help treat some of the cases of course, and we will. But the main needs are more of a logistics issue." She shrugged. "Which means, aside from preparing our facilities for a lot of operations and recoveries after surgery, we can rest for now." At least this was nothing they hadn't done hundreds of times, and so Anna expected them to be ready well before arrival.

"Of course" Sarah replied with a smile. She had been letting the excitement of the mission catch up with her. Best case scenario is that they wouldn't be needed. Worst case scenario the hospital's on the planet get overwhelmed and they take as much overflow as they could. "Should we send an advanced medical team down to assist with the triage in the disaster effected areas?"

"Possibly", Anna said. "I don't know whether that will be required. Say, have you got any experience with planetary search and rescue operations?" Anna had never done that before, and had no idea what problems they might be experiencing with the transporters, or with sensors, or with atmospheric turbulence and shuttles.

"Got some experience" Sarah replied then changed her tack as the away team personnel were called to the transporter room.

"You better go, we'll be fine here" she wished her boss good luck.

Anna nodded and started picking up the medical equipment she had to take on landing parties. "You make sure we'll be able to handle cases up here. Adding one more hospital to the relief efforts is going to save some lives, and we can just do what we've been trained for, instead of playing at firefighting at the same time."

" You got it Boss" Sarah cast a look around what used to be her sickbay. Dr Thesia was a medical genius and ran a well managed sickbay, much better than Sarah could have dreamed off. She'd merely been keeping the seat work until someone with more credentials and more experience came in. Dr Thesia had both of those in spades.

As the CMO headed through the doors Sarah briefed the team with what information they had, and waited for the onslaught.
