Home Bound

Posted on Mon Apr 4th, 2022 @ 12:38am by Lieutenant Commander Bonnie "Bon-Bon" Durnell

Mission: *CD*
Location: USS Sunfire
Timeline: Enroute to DS9

It was a two and half-day journey from the Nebula to the wormhole and the computer CORE was not going to be the priority in her life. Not now anyway. No, Bonnie Durnell had a responsibility to tend to her father's demise.

Every day, every hour, she toiled to complete the design, construction and implementation of a personal transporter that would send her further than any human being had ever traveled before. Dean had given her the idea, and she found the theoretical formula within the computer. It should be a matter of putting two and two together to get five.

Utilizing an epic amount of caffeine and stimulants she had managed to throw together a small transporter pad and two connecting armbands which would allow the user to control the destination and monitor the physical conditions of the wearer should something go horribly wrong. She sat back after programming the computer and nodded. This would either go amazingly right or… "I should test it." She said out loud and to herself.

Dean had spent the first night in the brig. Bonnie, during one of two breaks she had taken, snuck him a Deanwhich she had the computer make. He appreciated the gesture but made sure to tell her it was better when he made it by hand, which made her smile. At least she had tried.

She did not tell him then that she was working on the transporter. Later she was thinking to herself about why she hadn't told him but she couldn't come up with a concrete reason for keeping him in the dark. Her singular focus on going home to see her father's face one last time was her driving force. She wanted to be there. She needed to be there. 'Desire consumes souls' her papa had once said. She didn't understand then what he meant.

"Now. How to test this?" She questioned herself as the lights outside the ship turned blue and white with swirls and waves, brightening her workspace. They had entered the wormhole. It would not be long before they docked and she would be homeward bound, or… well, best not to dwell on what could go wrong.
