Andrew stepped deeper into sickbay and tried to communicate with the electro-plasma orb that had inhabited the body of the Sunfire’s Chief Medical Officer.

The Vulcan woman still glowed silently with an ethereal blue light. It was something Andrew had never seen before during his career as a Starfleet officer.

He swallowed hard and inched slightly closer to the woman, before closing his eyes and concentrating hard. His half-Betazoid physiology meant he was able to communicate telepathically with other humanoids and sense their emotions on a subtle level. He had no idea if these abilities could be applied to an orb of electro-plasm or not! But still, he had to try.

”Who are you?” he asked slowly and clearly. ”Why have you come to this ship? Why have you entered the body of one of our crew members?”

The answer was surprising, yet full of determination, ”We are the Meridiem. We are more than one. We are many. You disturbed us. You made us weak.” Each sentence sounded like it was coming from a different voice. ”We needed to move. But your vessel stopped us. We need to get to the star. We need the energy to survive. Without the energy our kind will die forever. The heart of your vessel was powerful. We thought it would be enough.”

Andrew thought he understood what these beings, the Meridiem, were trying to say. He opened his eyes and turned towards Captain Devoe, who had been standing silently behind Andrew this whole time. “Captain, they needed to get to a sun so that they could replenish their life-force, but somehow the Sunfire stopped them on their journey. They tried to get their energy from our warp core, but it wasn’t enough.”

“Do these Meridiem have hostile intentions?” Tom questioned with a raise of his eyebrow.

Andrew shook his head immediately, “I sense no hostility, but they are incredibly frustrated and afraid. I suggest moving the Sunfire towards the nearest star and allowing them safe passage to where they need to go.”
