"The Little Shuttle that Could"

Posted on Wed Aug 19th, 2020 @ 3:39pm by Captain Thomas Devoe & Captain Sandy "Ghost" Shannon

Mission: Welcome Aboard!
Location: CAG's Office

OOC: I thought these were out. Anyway, these are old JP's. This one is right as the ship decoupled from the station. This is also, why we need to stay on top of jp's.

Tom thought for a moment. The last thing anyone needed was for this entity to get over onto the station. Not only would it be harder to pin down, but there were a lot more people on the starbase that would be in danger if it started messing with the station's systems.

"Ok, here's what we'll do. We'll release the emergency couplings we'll be technically adrift but, if we can get someone on the hanger deck to tow us free from the station. This could work. The Orlando is more than capable. Its a full size bundle of joy with all the options."

"Once Archer isolates it, Santos and I can attempt to communicate with it," Noa offered. That was the whole point of having language skills, after all.

Devoe gave her a nod as he tapped his comm badge. {Oh, what was her name again, oh yes.} =/\= Devoe to CAG. Ghost, I have a mission for you, should you choose to accept it." =/\=

=Hanger Bay=

=/\= Shannon to Devoe, how can I assist you captain? You said you have a wee mission for me should I choose to accept?", she chuckled, waiting for the response.

Sandy just completed the fighter maintenance reports and was ecstatic that all fighters were in top shape. Now if she could get her pilots like that it would be something, but you always have a few hot shots that can spoil the crew and she already had two on report.

"We're in the process of releasing the emergency couplings on the ship. This will set us adrift. We could use the tractor beam from the Orlando or any other shuttle you can muster. We'll do what we can with the RCS thrusters. We just can't risk this thing jumping to the station."

You want the Orlando to tow the ship......" Sandy asked as she thought she was hearing things. Getting up, she walked over the deck to the Orlando. 'Damn that's a behemoth of a shuttle she thought. "Understood sir" she answered. Looking around to see if there were other pilots of hers around, she saw three, "Snake, Joker, Bandit, front and center. I have a job for you three. Get to your fighters and meet me outside in 5! Move it!" she barked and walked into the Orlando. Going through the flight checks, she saw the fighters take off. Next she took the Orlando out.

Ensign Masters wondered if the RCS thrusters would even kick on. "They will kick on. Its a separate system from the core. So long as we have emergency power, they'll work.", Devoe replied. "I'll go to the Ops panel and release the couplings." *Tom headed to the Ops panel and began the emergency release sequence.*

"Orlando to Devoe, outside with three fighters ready to tow. Holler when ready" Sandy said.

"Devoe to all hands. Brace for emergency couplings release. This is gonna be bumpy." *Tom entered the last of the required commands required. "Once I start the emergency countdown, I can't stop it. It's all or nothing. Ghost be at the ready. Ensign, fire those thrusters on her mark."

*Masters nodded* "Ready*

"Ready out here" Sandy said. Switching com frequency, Boys be ready to tractor the ship once she is free. Timing is essential, don't miss your mark!"

*The ships computer began the auditable alarm.* "Warning. Emergency coupling separation commencing. In T-minus 10, 9,...3, 2, 1. Disengaging couplings."

"Hang on!" Devoe shouted aloud.

The Sunfire blew all magnetic morning lines, one by one as the retracted. Making an awful sound. {It had to be spectacular to watch.} Tom thought. Followed by the couplings releasing in unison. Sunfire jolted violently and both She and the Station fired emergency separation rockets to clear one another. "Sorry, girl," Tom muttered.

Sunfire was now free of the station adrift and slowly nearing the Station. "Ghost anytime is a good time," as Devoe watched the ship drift ever so closer.

The Conning Officer immediately began to fire the RCS thrusters at full burn to slow the decent towards the Station.

"OK kiddies tractor beams activate now!" She hollered and 4 sets of tractor beams shot out grabbing the Sunfire. Praying it was enough, she started to pull along with the fighters. "WATCH your vectors! The pull must be steady or we will pull the Sunfire apart. Listen to orders from engineering on the hull stress. Maintain your distance from each other " Sandy said urgently.

"Ghost to Devoe, we are beginning to move. How goes the Hull stress? " said a worried Sandy. This was a first for her and a tricky one at that.

Tom looked over at Archer who was till at the Engineering station. "How's she looking Lt.?"

"So far, so good," as he kept trying to balance out the power grid.

The Conning officer continued to bounce about the controls. Sunfire was indeed slowing her decent and changing direction.
