Everything Is Going To Be Alright

Posted on Sun Aug 15th, 2021 @ 11:17pm by Lieutenant Commander Bonnie "Bon-Bon" Durnell

Mission: Gamma Quadrant
Location: USS Sunfire / DS9
Timeline: While Docked at Station

The moment the Sunfire had reentered the Alpha Quadrant, the update began downloading. An hour later, the patch was complete. No more bridge, no more creative engineering to make the two cores talk to one another. Everything was as it should be.

And yet there was a project she had been working on with Avarak. A project to make communications over and through subspace more viable when beyond the range of relay stations and such. Perfect for ships that had been lost beyond the reach of Starfleet, like Voyager and many others. If they had a way to communicate, at least they would have had a way to remain connected to that which they had lost.

Since the beginning of the project, she had poured over the system, the schematics, and the idea of their project. They had run into a stumbling block. One she had yet to understand. She had waited for an epiphany that had yet to strike.

But now, everything was going to be alright. The patch was in place. Now she could relax and focus once again on the project at hand. So long as nothing interrupted her flow, her daily routine, she would be okay. Everything would be okay.

She woke, checked the schedule for the day, performed her morning routine and headed out of the doors to her quarters. Today was going to be a good day.

Ambassador Class ship Archimedes slid effortlessly into the docking position almost directly opposite the Sunfire. “Archimedes, your docking clearance has been granted, enjoy your stay.”

“Thank you Deep Space Nine, however, we will not be staying long. One passenger to disembark.”

Like the sound of bees from a thousand hives, the whispers rose above the din as she traversed the promenade, moving from one docking port to the other with the gliding grace of one on a mission.

More than her height, which included the foot and half stack of hair, more than her appearance, which was a sight to be seen, it was her mere presence that garnered the attention of those in her visual spectrum. When she moved, her top half was rigid, stoic in nature, while her legs barely swayed, only propelled her forward. The scales upon her skin rose and fell with her breathing which was steady, regulated.

Eyeing no one, she moved effortlessly through the throng of people who had stopped and were staring. She ducked slightly as she entered the airlock and continued down the path to the docking port which connected the USS Sunfire to the Deep Space Station DS9.

The doors slid apart and she stepped onto the Sunfire Deck, just in time for Bonnie to round the corner, a destiny collision in the making.

She tilted her head and eyed Bonnie, who had stopped in her tracks. “Lieutenant. I wish to speak with your ships’ Commanding Officer, one Savar cha'Salik hei-Surak Talek-sen-deen.” She said without missing a beat or mispronouncing a syllable.

“Um, Commander Savar? I believe he is on the bridge, um Commodore?” Bonnie was at a loss for words. She knew of the Dragon but had never had the opportunity to meet with her in person. But even the stories of her presence did not seem to do her justice.

“Ambassador, actually. Perhaps if you could remove the tail from between your legs, you could kindly show me the way to the bridge. Or shall I find someone else to perform this task?” Her aire of superiority seethed from her lips like sap from a bitter tree.

“No, I can help, um Ambassador. This way.” Bonnie pointed, and then realizing protocol was in place, she started off on her left foot leading the Dragon towards the turbolift. She began counting steps and holding her breath.

They rounded the bend, then turned the corner and stopped. Bonnie pressed the lift call button and waited. She could feel the heat of the Dragon’s breath upon her neck and shoulders or was she imagining it. There did seem to be a bit of heat in between their proximity.

The doors finally parted, and Bonnie stepped in, turned and waited as the Ambassador ducked and entered the lift as well. She turned and was silent. Bonnie let out a breath, “Bri… bridge.” She said through a cracked voice.

The turbo ride seemed to last a lifetime where she felt she was not breathing the entire time. She attempted to pass the time by counting only to have to restart after ten because she lost her place. During her recount, the lift stopped and the doors parted.

Bonnie, knowing her protocol, stepped out, then to the side. She cleared her throat, “Ambassador S’thenosis Gorgox on the bridge.” She announced. This caused everyone to stand at attention and look in the Ambassador's direction.

S’thenosis walked past Bonnie, down the ramp and up to Savar who stood at the center of the bridge. She stopped, pulled a PADD from the sleeve of her cloak and handed it to him before speaking. “Savar cha'Salik hei-Surak Talek-sen-deen you have officially been summoned to a tribunal hearing at the Federation Consulate on Cardassia Prime in one month’s time, where if you wish, I will act as your judicial advocate.”

Bonnie watched as the dragon ladies' scales puffed out, not yet understanding their purpose.

“Any questions?” S’thenosis asked in an open-ended question.
