Thoughts on Arrival

I've officially arrived on the Sunfire. The ship seems to be in good order. I made a quick stop in engineering before heading to my quarters and I have to say I’m impressed. Maybe I’m just a sucker for a good looking engine, but either way, I can’t wait to get my hands on it. Matter/Anti-Matter Reaction Drive capable of warp 9.8 for 12 hours, reaction control system with twenty four thrusters that allow for precise movements….
Anyways, I’ll have to check in with the CEO later. I read his file and it says that he’s a Tellarite. I’ve never worked with a Tellarite in engineering before so this is sure to be an interesting assignment. Regardless, no one can be as hard to work with as Commander Sito was on the Wayfarer so I’m sure it’ll be just fine.
Captain Devoe is my new CO. I haven’t heard much about him other than he’s a good guy. Captain Meezo on the Wayfarer was an excellent CO and one of the people I’ll miss the most. Realistically, he’s the only reason I stuck around on that ship for as long as I did. If it wasn’t for him, I’d have asked for a transfer earlier. Also, officially the only CO that has ever helped me defeat a klingon by using a T-Rex as a distraction. Hopefully, serving under Devoe will prove as fulfilling as the last assignment.
The ship is currently taking shore leave on Risa. I’ve debated taking a couple of days and going down to the planet's surface, but that sort of thing really isn’t as much fun on your own and I haven’t met anyone here yet so instead I’ll just take some time to adjust to my new quarters. Perhaps I’ll brush up on all of the Sunfire’s engineering related specs and check out the crew manifest so I can see who I’ll be serving with.
I'll need to send a transmission to my parents to inform them of the move. I also have to send Scott a note. That's always the worst part about changing ships; leaving behind friends never gets any easier. I hope I made the right decision, but only time will tell. What is it dad used to say every time we moved to a new starship? "You can’t look back – you just have to put the past behind you, and find something better in your future."
